MOVIES I SAW AT MY SISTER’S HOUSE (Part 2)

NEED FOR SPEED

(Video on Demand)

<p>Aaron Paul (TV’s Breaking Bad) and Imogen Poots (The Look of Love) are the nominal leads but the real stars in this post-millennial drive-in movie are the cars.

Need - Car ONE Need- Car 2

Yes, I know the flick received only 22% critical approval on rottentomatoes.com (although it did score significantly higher with audiences.) my brother-in-law (who is an undiscriminating action fan) and my sister (who is definitely not) watched this along with myself and were both engaged and amused by turns.

Perhaps the movie was trying to eat some of the gold dust of theFast and Furious franchise or maybe the producers were hoping that Mr. Paul’s small screen success (three Emmy awards for Breaking Bad) would translate into box office bucks.

International ticket sales were huge but the fact the flick stalled at the North American box office may not bode well for Mr. Paul’s leading man status on his home turf.

At any rate, those critics/viewers who are looking for a little more depth are advised to look elsewhere. The flick (directed by Scott Waugh from a screenplay by George Gatins) is based on a videogame.

Wake up and smell the popcorn!
